France: Jacques Chirac's party got blown out in mid-term elections already being called a debacle, due to unpopular reforms to cut back on the welfare state that has kept France's economy from growing and a 10% unemployment rate. The elections were for local councils, but it showed a huge discontent with Chirac's party who must now do a cabinet shuffle and slow down/stop their reforms. The irony to all this is that any hope of the French economy coming out of its stagnant state is pretty much dead in the water, the welfare state is dead, but the people refuse to see it. Socialism will do that to you. Germany: Now German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is raising doubts about the Kyoto Policy because unless Russia signs it, it could harm the EU's economic competitiveness. 2005 is the start date for the EU to reduce emissions. Unless the EU comes up with major incentives for Russia to sign, its not happening. If Russia signs, how many countries you think are actually going to follow it? If you read the article, the whole emissions credit is an accounting gimmick. Russia joins, lots of "credit" can be used by other countries to keep their current levels of emissions German officials are desperate to hold on to American Bases. EU: Article on what is wrong with the EuroZone, but I have serious doubts it will ever get corrected in time, at the rate they are going, I suspect in 20 years, China and India being competitive and maybe even surpassing the EuroZone. FoxNews: Good article on Shepard Smith from the NYTIMES. He will never live down the J-Lo moment on his show. Ireland: There is an actual smoking ban going in effect in Ireland. Chances of it actually working? I give it less than 30% chance of success.

France and China will hold a naval exercise 4 days before presidential elections in Taiwan. France wants business in China, so this is a nice feel good mission for them. Taiwan is not happy about this at all. The Poll yesterday about the resentment Muslims are feeling in Britain in more detailed here. Eurozone in fear of recession, having Spain surrender to Al Qaeda can't help. Zapatero, the new PM of Spain, says he wants to be more Pro-Europe and wants Europe to see them as pro-Europe... Chirac is desperate to form a counterweight to America, but even with Spain, its a laugh. All Spain has done with its talk is sign a death warrant for "Old" Europe. Al-Qaeda gameplan to hit Spain before the elections to cause a government change is documented here. It worked to perfection. Haiti has pulled out Caricom and Jamaica says it doesn't recognize the new Haitian Government. Caricom rabble rousing amount to next to nothing. If thats not enough Aristide arrived to be the "guest" of Jamaica for the next 2 months. BBC commissioned a survey of Iraqis and actually found them happier than before the invasion. If you have been following what has been going on the ground via blogs and some stories that get thru the mainstream press, this is not a surprise. It must have hurt the BBC to broadcast this.

Spain's Zapatero, "More recently, the revelation that a coalition partner of the Socialists in the regional government of Catalonia held secret talks with ETA prompted the PP to questions Zapatero's control over his own party. For some, Zapatero's lack of aggression was exempified in a recent television interview. When asked what he would do if confronted by the leader of ETA in the street, Zapatero replied: "I would not look him in the face". " oh yeah... Al Qaeda could not have picked a better leader. Kerry: Powell called out Kerry to prove his claim that foreign leaders were rooting for him. Kerry refused. Operation Mountain Storm in Afghanistan gets 3 Taliban Commanders. More on the cowardly Spain voters, Its not Terrorists who killed 200 people, it was Bush. Someone had a saying about Europeans and Americans, Majority of Europeans live with terrorism, Americans will fight terrorism. very disturbing is the young voters in Spain actually believe if they stick their head in the sand, everything will be back to normal like just regular ETA bombings. Sad. US is sending special forces troops to North Africa , fears it might prove to be an Al Qaeda recruiting ground. 13% of British Muslims think that more terror attacks are good for America. Take that for what its worth. Hollywood still in shock from the success of The Passion of the Christ are now rethinking making faith-based movies. I think it will be a fleeting moment of thinking.

Voting in Spain so far show the socialist party winning by a narrow margin, but doing much better than expected. I wish I could say I was surprised, but I would have been shocked if the PP(ruling party) actually got more support. If the Al-Qaeda backed Socialist party wins a majority, it proves the suspicion that in the face of terror, Europeans will back down, expect more attack on European soil with the success of this horrible attack on the results of this election. I feel sorry for the ones who didn't run to the socialists like cowards and honestly believe in fighting against terror. Update: Al Qaeda "backed" Socialist party claim victory

France: AZF put out new threats of bombing french railways and increased their ransom demands. Finally! Someone is going to take the Supreme Court Justices to task in their increasing use of foreign legal precedents to come up with decisions for cases here. Al Qaeda is claiming responsibilty for the horrible train bombing that took place on Thursday. The bombings on European soil seems to have caused some soul searching within the European press such as Le Monde, of course the Neville Chamberlain of newspapers the Guardian now has this wonderful idea. I knew the Guardian would look for the appeasement route, but a conference? Jamaica will be hosting former prime minister Aristide for 2 months so he can reunite with his family, the group that will pick him up from Africa includes Whacko democract Maxine Waters. This is of course meddling by a pretty useless group CARICOM and the groupies that Aristide has left who still believe he is worth a damn to Haiti. My take is that Haiti has been a failure to its people for over 200 years, Aristide who was thought to be a savior morphed into just another dictator after he was installed back into power by Clinton Admin. It is in the best interest of America what is going on in its backyard, CARICOM is a joke, UN will do nothing, so if it means Aristide had to go, and in this case, he was saved before the Mob go to him, so be it. But, having him come back to the region is a mistake and will only work against him and anyone still dumb enough to support him. Kerry: Poll out saying Kerry would be the preference for terrorists over George Bush 60% to 25% as President. I am not surprised.

North Korea for John Kerry! I don't think he wants this sort of backing. In the past few weeks, speeches by the Massachusetts senator have been broadcast on Radio Pyongyang and reported in glowing terms by the Korea Central News Agency (KCNA), the official mouthpiece of Mr Kim's communist regime. Not surprisingly, North Korea with a hope of a John Kerry win, now may ask that US troops leave South Korea in exchange of dropping their nuclear program. Of course that won't happen, and NK will just making crazy demands to drag this out pass the election. Greece: The conservative new democracy party wins over the Socialists party. The first thing they are going to do is to get the troubled Athen Olympic game preparations, based on the latest video, you are going to have to bring your own seats. It doesn't look anywhere near ready. Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani dropped his objections to the new Iraq constitution and the signing will take place on Monday. This already is causing major concern with the Sunni and Kurds members that the Shiites led by Al-Sistani will try to grab more power later on. If Germany is going to have a welfare state, then have a welfare state. The guy's wife is in Thailand and he is lonely. I agree with him.
