MOSCOW, March 4 (Reuters) - Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov said on Friday it would only take a brief talk with President Vladimir Putin to persuade him to end the war in Chechnya. But Maskhadov, the veteran leader of guerrilla forces that have fought Russia for a decade, vowed rebels would fight to the end if Putin did not negotiate."

Ilya Shabalkin said Maskhaov was killed during the course of a "special operation," but he did not elaborate.
