Newspaper circulation in a death spiral

Media: Severe drops across the board while the NY Post overtakes the NY Daily news in overall circulation. E&P has the summaries.

ABC Results for the Top Daily Papers in the U.S. Here are the top 25 daily newspapers in the U.S. by circulation (with percent change) for the six-month period ending September 2006. This list does not include the Chicago Sun-Times and The Dallas Morning News. Of these, only three newspapers reported gains. Also notable: The New York Post overtook the New York Daily News in daily circulation. - October 30, 2006 8:35 AM ET Big Metros Show Severe Declines in Latest Circ Report This is the fourth consecutive semi-annual report to register a severe drop in daily circulation and -- perhaps more troubling to the industry -- Sunday copies. While the estimated decline 2.5% for daily circulation for all reporting papers may seem negligible, consider that in years past that decrease averaged around 1%.
