Keith Ellison on Islam being his political guide.

Politics: Via the Detroit Free Press.

Detroit native Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, told a group of metro Detroiters on Wednesday that he will not impose Islam on others, but will use the religion to help inform his politics. "I'm not a religious leader ..." Ellison said inside Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Detroit. "I'm not here to be a preacher. But in terms of political agenda items, my faith informs these things." Ellison spoke to a group of Arab-American, Muslim, labor, and Catholic leaders at a meeting sponsored by Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength, MOSES, a Detroit-based coalition group.
Goofy part is the article originated from the Free Press but it has been edited down. Full article shows up in other papers.
And Ellison was criticized this week for his appearance Sunday in Dearborn, Mich., at the annual convention of the Muslim American Society.
That is news to me since it wasn't covered by any of the major papers who were still forming a protective circle around him from Goode's comments.
